Ali Fights Lenin Arroyo Saturday at Prudential Center
The final press conference for Saturday’s super card at Prudential Center in Newark, which is being headlined by heavyweights Tomasz Adamek and Michael Grant, took place today at the Global Boxing Gym in North Bergen. Being featured on the undercard of the pay-per-view event will be undefeated welterweight Sadam Ali (8-0, 4 KOs), who puts his perfect record on the line in an eight-round bout against Costa Rica’s Lenin Arroyo (20-12-1, 4 KOs).
“Everything’s good. I’m in the gym working hard,” Ali said today. “This is my first pay-per-view fight. I’m very excited to have more eyes on me, and everyone around the United States watching me. I’m just excited to go out and do what I do best.”
With 33 fights on his professional resume, the 30-year-old Arroyo presents the challenge of an experienced veteran to Ali, but the former U.S. Olympian is more than up to the task at hand.
“I started boxing when I was eight, so I’ve been around it for so long,” Ali remarked. “I really know the ins and outs about boxing, so getting in there, I’m not underestimating anybody. Okay, he’s a veteran – he knows this, he knows that – I know a couple of things, too. I’m going to go in there, and I’m going to do what I do best. I’m just going to pick everything out, and just find a way to win.”
In addition to his strong skill set, Ali also has a great support team behind him. That enables him to focus solely on the fighters placed in front of him and avoid all of the distractions that often come with the boxing game.
“I just let my team behind me handle that side, and I just stay in the gym,” Ali said of the business and political end of the sport. “Whenever they get fights, I’ll be ready. Just like this Saturday night, I’ll be ready. I’ve been in the gym. I’m ready to go.”
As Ali stated, the showdown with Arroyo will be part of Saturday’s featured pay-per-view card, which hits the air at 9:00 p.m. With a suggested retail price of $29.95, the card will be available throughout the United States and Canada on a variety of cable and satellite providers.
